Erica Waverly

Ericawave

ERICA WAKERLY graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2005 (MA Printed Textiles), specialising in surface design for interiors.

The inspiration behind the work is about unexpected ways of creating, using and contrasting print and pattern design within furniture and architecture. Drawing, composition and colour are integral to the designs. It is about combining innovative techniques and new materials, with more human qualities, for example, the hand drawn image with digital print.

The wallpaper designs, "Spiral" and "Angles", use geometric elements, in sophisticated repeats, which are both graphic and organic. "Spiral" is a bold linear design which, uniquely, can be hung horizontally or vertically. "Angles" is clean, modern and ethereal as the silver lines reflect the light. Each design has a curious 3D quality, playing with space and perspective.

2005 Hecht & Bannier VdP Cotes de Thau Rosé Syrah

Syrah_2005

2005 Hecht & Bannier VdP Cotes de Thau Rosé Syrah  - Over the past couple years, rosé wines have grown from being trendy to a much more noticeably popular wine. Because of the stigma surrounding white zin and other blush wines, it has taken longer for quality rosé to catch on here in the US. Here's a wine that will change your mind if you haven't already caught the bug. It is a Syrah from Gregory Hecht and Francois Bannier... consider it your super fresh, funky and FUN rose to officially kick off the 2005 rose season! From the south of France, it has strawberry, watermelon, and pomegranate nuances and will pair with just about anything! H&B's 2004 rose was named #1 rose in last summer's La Revue du Vins de France.

EFCI Designs

Efci_tigerrory

EFCI is an acronym for the Elastic Fantastic Chronosynclastic Infundibulum, which means something like a place where different kinds of truths fit together to become one. But more simply EFCI is a company with creative menswear designed by Rory Scerri-Marion and Sumter Pendergrast. THe new fall/winter 2006 collection is described as “Oscar Wilde meets Hong Kong,” which loosely translates as velvet pants in colors like orange and wovens with Chinese-themed embroidery. Motifs include koi and dragons and an image of Bruce Lee pops up on tees. Dress shirts also feature details like french cuffs. The complete EFCI collection also showcases Italian corduroy jackets, pea coats and denim. The designers of EFCI want fans to picture an outfit worn by Wilde having drinks in HK’s Felix bar or riding his motorbike through the busy streets of Kowloon.

2003 Almaviva (Chile)

20484

95 points and a Highly Recommended from The Wine Spectator! They say, "Very dense, with loads of raspberry ganache, black currant and fig fruit layered with loam, tobacco, mineral and cedar notes. Lots of grip on the finish, with impressive balance between tannins, acidity and oak. Built like a Pauillac. Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2007 through 2015. -J.M. May 15, 2006" According to Robert Parker: "...one of the great wines I tasted in Bordeaux [on my last visit] was from Chile....the 2003 Almaviva tasted last week at Mouton (it is in the bottle and in the market) is the finest cabernet-based wine I have ever had from Chile....pretty special stuff..." (Mark Squires Bulletin Board, posted 1-13-2006) K&L's notes - Big, rich cabernet with a long focused finish, the 2003 Almaviva is tough to beat. The ripe fruit is beautifully balanced with oak and spice notes. I tried it with the 2001 and 2002, the '03 was clearly the class of the bunch.

Nine ~ Zurich

002028Recently opened in the up-and-coming Seefeld quarter, Nine is already a favourite among the city's beau monde. Owner Mike Gut called in Berne-based architects ASP to create a truly contemporary space that still retains a cosy ambience thanks to dark oak wood and orange rubber detailing and special edition B&B Italia chairs. The exquisite Mediterranean fusion menu, based on local, seasonal ingredients, is also proving to be a big hit.

Mai-Thu Perret ~ The Crystal Frontier

Perret_apocballet1

The Renaissance Society will present a solo exhibit by Mai-Thu Perret from April 30 to June 11,2006. There will be a reception on April 30 from 4 to 7 pm, with a discussion with the artist from 5 to 6 pm.

Perret's exhibition will continue her project "The Crystal Frontier." The exhibition will consist of two components - an aluminum-clad, room-sized teapot in which viewers will be able to enter and view a suite of drawings; and five life-sized sculptures of female dancers holding neon hoops.  Perret is a concise but radical art historical scavenger whose sources range from Busby Berkeley, to Russian Constructivism, to Alice and Wonderland.  A reflection on utopias and dystopias, Perret's work is enigmatic, poetic, and strangely beautiful.

A graduate of the Whitney Independent Study Program, Perret has exhibited in the Centre d'Art Contemporain, Geneva, Switzerland (2005), Art Basel 35 (2004), and Artist Space, New York (2005).

Noir Kennedy ~ Paris

28

Started by Sebastien de Jaegher aka  Joon four years ago as punk/skate label, Noir Kennedy has just released their 7th collection. He began designing clothes because he didn’t find anything that he wanted to wear so he decided to makes his own  Their influences comes especially from the musical medium, rock and roll of the seventies , Quadrophenia while passing by Minor Threat or Dispatch Mode. But also the skate, punk, trash scene in which he sepnt a good part of his youth and which particularly inspired him

If you didn't know it was there, you'd just pass this amazing store. around the corner from l'eclaireur [homme] this is definitely not one to pass up if you love skinny jeans and punk rock. Also good for anyone who wants to check out an interesting store concept.

Moris Gontard

Basculementdelabrise70x702006

Moris Gontard, present on the French art scene for many years, his work was included in the French selection for the biennial exhibition in Venice in 1978. His art starts off in meticulous observation of reality (the leaf, the blade of grass, the door) then evolves toward a conception of landscape that is further and further from realism. Strengthened by the freedom gained from increasing mastery of his technique, he conserves only the essential essence which inscribes his work in the French tradition of aquatic landscapes, the subject matter he has shown preference for in the last few years. Well represented in the cultural patrimony of our banks, BNT, BP, Caisse d’Epargne and other private firms, including the RATP and the famous restaurant Taillevent.

I viewed his work at the Galerie Protee on the Rue de la Seine in Paris
