2002 Iron Horse Pinot Noir

The most distinctive character of  Iron Horse Pinot Noir icon is that it goes beyond the bright fruit character typical of the Russian River area, showing deeper, more earthy flavors that are special to Green Valley. This is a very expressive, stylish wine. It has extraordinary depth of character and yet the weight and texture of the wine are so light and silky, it just glides across the palette.

The Estate Pinot Noir is made from six distinct sites on their Green Valley vineyard, harvested over a period of several days, resulting in ten different lots of wine, blended together to make a very expressive, stylish wine. Smoky oak intermingled with dark, ripe cherries, wild berries, clove, vanilla and woodsy, leathery scent offer the first heady sensation. The mouth feel is rich and supple. The bright, Green Valley acidity carries the flavors to a full, long finish.

Accolades: The 2002 received a 90-point rating in Wine Spectator. The prior vintage was described in the Dallas Morning News by wine writer Diane Teitlebaum as "jaw-dropping." It received a 90-point rating in Wine Enthusiast. San Francisco radio personality Narsai David praised it as "most elegant" on the KCBS Kitchen and it was listed as an excellent all around favorite for Thanksgiving in USA Today.
