2003 Almaviva (Chile)

95 points and a Highly Recommended from The Wine Spectator! They say, "Very dense, with loads of raspberry ganache, black currant and fig fruit layered with loam, tobacco, mineral and cedar notes. Lots of grip on the finish, with impressive balance between tannins, acidity and oak. Built like a Pauillac. Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2007 through 2015. -J.M. May 15, 2006" According to Robert Parker: "...one of the great wines I tasted in Bordeaux [on my last visit] was from Chile....the 2003 Almaviva tasted last week at Mouton (it is in the bottle and in the market) is the finest cabernet-based wine I have ever had from Chile....pretty special stuff..." (Mark Squires Bulletin Board, posted 1-13-2006) K&L's notes - Big, rich cabernet with a long focused finish, the 2003 Almaviva is tough to beat. The ripe fruit is beautifully balanced with oak and spice notes. I tried it with the 2001 and 2002, the '03 was clearly the class of the bunch.
